Unfolding Lamp

The origin of this distinctive lamp is not clearly known, but it is likely an adaptation in metal of a paper lantern Bawa acquired from the London department store, Harrods, in the 1960s. A version of the lamp in a clear finish is displayed in the guest suite at Number 11. A blue version resides on the front terrace at Lunuganga.

Phantom Hands’ reedition is made in aluminium with a clear anodised finish. The intricate shapes on the lamp are laser cut on aluminium sheets and then bent into shape. The various parts of the lamp stay in place with a sliding and locking mechanism that is an integral part of the design. The lamp comes with a 7W LED bulb and an e27 bulb holder
